Casing Design API 617

Overview / Problem

The client required to design centrifugal compressor casing based on API 617 to improve efficiency and compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.

Approach & Tools

Used SolidWorks for 3D modeling and applied GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5) to all functional features. Conducted tolerance analysis to confirm assembly fit.

Overview / Problem

The project required structural verification of a compressor impeller subjected to high-speed operation and centrifugal loads. The objective was to ensure safe operation and avoid high deformation on the impeller hub.

Approach & Tools

Performed meshing using Hyper Mesh software and conducted static analysis using Abaqus. Evaluated stress distribution and deformation. Validated design margins based on material limits.

Rotor Reverse Engineering

3D scanned, reconstructed, and recreated manufacturing drawings for a compressor rotor.

Manufacturing Drawings

Preparation of fully detailed manufacturing drawings for the centrifugal compressor components, including dimensional tolerances, assembly references, and material callouts according to ASME Y14.5.

Overview / Problem

An obsolete compressor rotor requires replication without access to the original drawings. The goal was to create accurate CAD models and manufacturing documentation.

Approach & Tools

Used 3D scanning and Geomagic Design X for surface reconstruction. Rebuilt CAD geometry in SolidWorks, validated key dimensions against the scan, and generated 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T.

  • Processed 3D scan and reconstructed solid model

  • Complete 2D drawings with dimensional tolerances

  • Material specification and assembly notes

Overview / Problem

The client required a complete 2D drawing package for fabrication and assembly, but only had outdated models and missing GD&T information, leading to frequent shop-floor interpretation errors and rework.

  • Rebuilt 3D models in SolidWorks based on validated geometry

  • Applied GD&T according to ASME Y14.5 standards

  • Conducted tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure fit and function
